Rounders (1998)
Although never a box office smash hit, Rounders has gained a steady cult following since its release in 1998. The film follows New York law student Mike McDermott (Matt Damon) as he struggles to choose between loyalty to his girlfriend Jo (Gretchen Mol) and his best friend “Worm” (Edward Norton). The result is a dark insight into the criminal underworld of New York, whereby the only way out for Mike what put him there in the first place – poker.

Lock Stock was Guy Ritchie’s first major British film; it was met with critical acclaim and a huge response from the public. Everyone loved the movie, and it soon became something of a cult classic among movie fanatics.

The Gambler (1974)
The Gamblerwas released in 1974, and is based loosely on the short story by Fyodor Dostoyevski, regarded as one of the greatest Russian writers of all time. The plot revolves around Axel Freed (James Caan), a New York literature professor with an insatiable thirst for gambling. However, unable to control his addiction, Freed is dragged down deeper into the gambling underworld, and is in grave danger of losing everything.

A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966)
You would be forgiven for thinking that “A Big Hand For The Little Lady” is a Western, but with no gunfights, sheriffs or saloon brawls, this one has a few tricks up its sleeve. Described best as a western comedy, A Big Hand For The Little Lady contains non-stop twists and turns, with some more expected than others…

The Cincinnati Kid (1965)
Set during the Great Depression in New Orleans, Louisiana, The Cincinnati Kid is a cinematic masterpiece involving poker, power and, inevitably, corruption. The Kid (Eric Stoner, played by Steve McQueen) is portrayed as an up-and-coming stud poker player with the ambition and determination to be the best in the business. Having ruthlessly taken out players in poker rooms stretching across several states, the time has come for The Kid to prove his worth and take on The Man (Lancey Howard, played by Edward Robinson).
